Contributing Factors to Decline in Physical Activity Among Adolescents: A Scoping Review

It is presumed that the level of physical activity (PA) declines during a person’s lifespan, particularly adolescence. The main objective this scoping review to summarize and identify current literature addresses contributing factors related adolescent inactivity. This was carried out using framework suggested by Arskey O'Malley. undertaken reference period between 2008 2014, based primarily on PubMed, Cochrane Embase databases. Additional studies have been identified manual bibliography search. Search term included / youth teenage, determinants /correlations, inactivity/decline exercise. A total 23 met inclusion criteria. found some evidence association inactivity following variables: Age, sex, socio-economic status, lack social support from parents, family friends had an impact their motivation perform PA continuous basis. Also, awareness, attitudes, practices individuals themselves for not doing has affected interest in maintaining PA. noted environment also plays important role, such as inadequate facilities facilities, well unsuitable place or setting unconducive neighbourhood does take care aware healthy lifestyle, factor decline adolescence consistent finding literature. However, interventions should be developed through education, programs, behavioural environmental policy changes.
